 Frequently Asked Questions

Q   Why do I need mixing and mastering?

A   You’ve poured your heart and soul into your song, but the sad truth is that in todays world of home studios and massive competition, no one will hear your music unless it stands out head and shoulders above the rest. You need someone uniquely qualified, with the highest quality tools, ears, expertise and experience, someone with the dedication to bring all that to your precious creation and polish it to musical brilliance, clarity and power. The final stage, a polished mix and powerful master, is where you make the crucial choice that will make or break your chance to be heard.

Q   Who will be doing the work on my music?

This is not a “mixing mill” operated by nameless, low level employees. All work is done personally by me, so you get my musical expertise, dedication and years of deep experience infused into your creation from the first bar to the last reverb tail. For further details and to begin the process,  contact me.

Q   What genres do you work in?

With training and experience that ranges from the most rigorous demands of classical orchestral music, to the raw emotion of chitlin circuit blues, to the biggest world rock tours and everything in between, I’ve done it all and love it all. The thing that matters most to me is to take a piece of music and use every ounce and every facet of musical mind and soul within me to wring the most profoundly moving musical result possible out of the raw gem I’ve been given.

Q What if I need additional instruments, background vocals or arrangements?

All of that is available, either performed personally by me or other singers/players I have access to that would be right for the situation.

Q   How do I send my music for mixing?

A   It doesn’t matter what DAW or system your music was recorded on, just send me all the raw, unprocessed individual tracks as separate audio files in either WAV or AIF format, at the original sample and bit rate, making sure all the tracks start at the beginning, bar one, the identical start point as every other track. It will cost you nothing to send the files, just use a free service like wetransfer.com. If you have a rough mix you’d like me to hear, send that too.

Bonus! If you have me mix your song, I will include mastering as well for no additional charge! My mastering is of the highest quality available, just like my mixing. For further details and to begin the process,  contact me.

Q   How do I send my music for mastering?

If your music is already mixed to your satisfaction and you just need mastering, send me a 24 or 16 bit stereo WAV or AIF audio file. (MP3s are not acceptable for high quality mastering, and converting in iTunes will not bring the quality up to the necessary standard. You need to bounce or export directly from your recording/mixing software to create a true 24 or 16 bit file.) I will apply the same care, dedication and professionalism to your mastering needs that I do to mixing.

Q   How long will it take to get my music back?

A   For mixing a single song, 3-5 business days. For mastering a single song, 2-3 business days.

Q   What are your rates?

A   While rates vary according to track count, length and overdubs if needed, you’ll find my rates reasonable and competitive, especially considering the unparalleled quality of the final result. For further details and to begin the process,  contact me.
